Jul 27 Joe Menzer, of the Winston-Salem Journal, reports sources said Carolina Panthers RB Stephen Davis (knee) will not pass his physical Friday, July 29. The Panthers already are planning to put Davis on the active/physically unable to perform (PUP) list, meaning he won't practice with the team but will continue rehabilitation work with trainer Ryan Vermillion and with Jerry Simmons, the strength-and-conditioning coach. Panthers' general manager Marty Hurney wouldn't say that Davis has encountered a major setback, but he did say that there are no immediate plans to release Davis. "Stephen's going to have his physical Friday. It's wait and see. We've always said that his physical condition will tell us (what to do)," Hurney said. "I think all along it was understood that he probably would be continuing with his rehab process at the beginning of camp." The team has been targeting training camp for Davis' return.

pretty much figured on this happening. It looks to be fosters job to keep if he can stay healthy, though its hard not to consider a rbbc after seeing nick goings play last year...he was huge when we needed him

I'd say no...TJ will start the season at least, and will likely see much more time than Goings will. Eric Shelton will probably get the backup position, moving Goings back to FB (I think that was his natural position anyway). And if during the season Davis comes back, that crowds it even more.

I don't think so. Thomas Jones will split with Cedric Benson, while Goings will be Foster's caddy barring injury.

Then Goings?

They also signed B. Bennett to see if he could be the man, showing not too much faith in Goings.

Goings is a backup FB, not a threat to run the rock unless the whole team goes down like they did last year
