I wasn't aware an Antonio Gates came along every year. He'll be a borderline option to start at tight end, and he has some upside, but not Gates-upside.

He plays on a NE offense with 3 RB's, 6 WR's, and 2 other TE's that will catch the ball almost weekly. Heck...LB's even catch passes on this team.

I don't think he's going to be Gates-like this year. When Bledsoe and Parcells ran the show, Coates was the man. But now with Brady and Belichick at the helm, the passes go everywhere. I may be jumping the gun or clueless, but I wouldn't expect more than 500/4 from him. There are just too many others who will take the yards and TD's away from everyone else.

Watson's stats will be closer to Bill Gates's than Antonio Gates's.

Their comparison is only to attract your attention. There won't be a Gates-like season from an unknown.

I wouldn't go as far as call him as unknown, he just hasn't played in the NFL, really. He was a first round draft pick(32nd) in 2004, but he was injured in the first game of the year, and done for the whole season. He did get the start along side Daniel Graham, and had 2 catches for 16 yards, before going down.

He was highly regarded coming out of college, He was regarded as "One of the premier tight ends in the country after a stellar junior campaign, Watson was hampered most of his final season with a nagging ankle injury … Fine athlete with tremendous quickness, boasting the fastest 40-yard dash (4.44) of any tight end in college football".


The fact that he will have to fight all those other guys in NE uniforms for catches I really can't see him being a Gates this year either. Good, yes. Gates, no. With having Watson and Graham, I think they will have a lot of 2 TE sets this year. How do you sit one of those guys???

If anyone can pull it off I think it'll be Troupe; the problem is Kinney is there too. I don't think there will be a Gates this year but there are a number of guys out there who could be quite productive who are being drafted low.

i believe troupe has a serious injury to his leg or foot. So i would be relying on him too much!
