Starting Keeper Leagues

Hey I am in a league with me and my friends and we are all novices at best. We already did the draft (autodraft ) and have our lineups and I am just curious, could we just have this redraft league turn into a keeper league? It is on yahoo, and I figure I could just print out everybodys roster and the draft results at the end of the season, and we could all keep like 4 keepers. Then the next season create a new redraft league and be forced to draft our keepers in the round that we chose them in the last year. Isn't that basically what a keeper league is anyway?

yep that would work.

my suggestion is to get this season under your belt. test the waters out. then when next season rolls around, and if all your buddies wanna try it again, then do a live draft and start keepers.

Well, basically yes but you should have made the decision before the draft. If you all autodrafted using Yahoo's prerankings, it wouldn't change things anyhow but if each team pre-ranked their own players, the draft would have turned out different because players have different values in a keeper versus a redraft league.

As long as everyone agrees before the season that this is going to be a keeper, then you are in good shape and good luck!

If teams want to re-draft, you can always hold a live draft and the commish can set the teams accordingly - this will be a pain in the arse but it's worth it to start the league off on the right foot.

So if I do start this keeper league, I have a question on the drafting from year to year... If I get 2nd pick for example this year, should I get the 9th pick the next year (10 player league)? Or does the draft order get randomized every year?

That's entirely up to you. Most keepers set the draft in inverse order of the final standings, like the NFL does. So whichever team finishes in last place in your league this year would have first pick in the draft next year. You can randomize every year, but you run the risk of not allowing poor teams the opportunity to improve.

1) Players aquired from Free Agents, if they are keepers where do they fit into the draft?
2) Players aquired from trades, if they are keepers are where do they belong in the draft?

I'm not entirely following your question - what do you mean by "where do they belong in the draft"?
