What was so great about that catch?

That Mets guy who caught the ball barehanded whilst running backwards.

If you liked that catch, watch Cricket. You'll see a catch like that at least once a game.

That's one thing I havent quite understood about baseball, why people go nuts when someone picks up a ball without using their glove. In cricket the ball is harder and it travels just as fast off the bat as it does in baseball. I don't think having a glove is that necessary.

I assume you mean David Wright...I didn't see the catch, so I'll reserve judgment right now. It just looks cool because he didn't use his glove. Fans in the stands do it too, so unless he was doing a cartwheel while catching it, it probably wasn't super-spectacular.

Although I must say that Kevin Mitchell's barehanded grab in LF for the SF Giants was probably one of the cooler catches I've seen. :-)

aussie, if I had a channel on my TV that had cricket, I would probably watch it. I dig sports from outside the US, like Aussie Rules Football and Rugby. ;-D

That was good grab, i saw it on highlites, I think one of the ESPN guys said it was the greates catch ever. BTW the reason cricket isn't on TV is because it's boring/lame :-t

Growing up I was always amazed at how easy it must be to catch a ball with an oversized glove on your hand. Wasnt until I moved to the states and tried to catch a ball wearing a glove I realized it wasnt as easy as it appeared. Still I agree with you Aus, having had the bones in my hand broke catching a cricket ball, give me the glove anyday. ;-D

Well, they can say what they want...I'll take the Jack Wilson diving shovel flip to Jose Castillo onto first for an out a few weeks ago. Go Pirates! ;-D

Personally, I like the guy on the Dodger's who hit the ball bouncing off the ground. On a hit and run play you have to swing, and not only did he protect the runner he got a pretty nice knock for himself.
