"On Friday, Mewelde Moore swept right end on his first carry, swerved through defenders and went for 16 yards. Moore is the people's choice in the running back competition, so the Metrodome occupants screeched happily at this result.
He had five more carries for a total of 5 yards, then left because of a sprained left ankle. Coach Mike Tice called it a "mild sprain" after the game.
We'll see.
Moore missed six weeks because of a sprain of that same ankle last season. That earned him a reputation as a slow healer at Winter Park.
Tice spent the offseason rehashing Moore's rookie season and chose before training camp to commit himself to Michael Bennett as the No. 1 running back.
Bennett had 19 yards in 12 exhibition carries before suffering a sprained neck last week against the New York Jets. This caused Tice to announce this week that Bennett was out for the season opener and Moore would be the starter.
Now what?
Moore said not to worry -- he'll be available. "I don't have any pain," he said in the locker room. "I think I'll be all right.""
