Semi-Sleeper: Kevin Curtis

Coach Mike Martz said Kevin Curtis is on the same level as Torry Holt and Isaac Bruce.
Martz is prone to exaggeration, but this helps outline Curtis' upside. ''I think those three are very comparable receivers. I think right now, he's at that level.'' Curtis could break 800 yards even if Holt and Bruce stay healthy.

You can't trust Martz completely, but it's clear he like Curtis. He will get his opps this year. He showed flashes last year, especially in the last game of the season (99 rec yds). Curtis' value isn't particularly high in redrafts, but if you're in a keeper or a dynasty, he could take over Bruce's role as the #2 WR in a year or two.

I was always more of a dan of Shaun McDonald. There are so many things this could mean coming from Martz.

1) He means it

2) He is trying to motivate Curtis

3) He is trying to motivate McDonald.

I don't trust anything "Mad Mike" ever says or does. The guy would call a 2 year old onto the field as part of a QB sneak if he could.

Plus that team is completely backwards now. Left tackels are now playing right guard, trifectra surgury recoveries, etc, etc. Not that they aren't contention based - but Mike is talking out of his rear most of the time and is not to be trusted (in my opinion).

Either way...Curtis and McDonald are sleepers. That offense is insanely pass happy, and if one of those guys really takes off, we could have a Stokley on our hands. It's just something to monitor...especially if Holt or Bruce would go down to injury.

The thought does not even cross my mind. Even after the best performance of a No. 3 last year (Stokley), you should be able to find a more consistent person to start on your team than ANYONE's No. 3 WR.

All this Kevin Curtis sleeper talk doesn't mean you should go out and draft him in a redraft league (except in a very late round).

It should serve notice that Bulger has the potential to be much more than your average middle round QB.

Last season Bulger averaged more than 300 yards per game 8-o

Both Curtis and McDonald contributed in minor roles in 2004... If either one of them makes the jump to solid contributer.... Look out, Bulger could challenge for Marino's yardage record.

Dovetailing into this a bit, the Rams WRs accounted for over 81% of the teams receiving yards last season. For round numbers we'll say 80%*300yds=240 receiving yards/game. If you figure Holt for say 90 on average, Bruce for say a 70 yd. average, that stil leaves 80 WR yds. to be had.

I think in bigger redrafts or redrafts/keeper leagues, Curtis is worth a flier. His stock goes up tremendously though in all leagues if something happens to either of the 2 starters.

I think more gurus in this forum see his potential more than they dare to admit when they start typing. This guy runs past everyone and scores long touchdowns! If Bruce or Holt go down, Curtis can easily go off for 100 and 1TD every week he starts. Hell, he can do that with one pass. Big-time sleeper IMO. I don't mind being the only one in my league drafting him this year!

everyone has potential to do this or that..Bulger has never tossed more than 22 tds. He has a lifetime td/int ratio of nearly 1:1.
he's a yardage king, not much else. Warner avg'd 32 tds, and took the team to the SB twice, winning it once..
whats Bulger's excuse???
I wouldn't touch Bulger unless he dropped into the middle rounds..I can get comparable or better value with Delhomme
MUCH later than where Bulger is going. Bulger is grosly overvalued :-t

Take it from a Rams fan: Curtis has much more upside than MacDonald. Curtis is a burner, a deapthreat. He will probably soon replace Bruce out wide opposite Holt. However, that won't happen this year. 800 yards and 7 TDs is about the ceiling for Curtis this year.
