I'm about to do my first draft with IDPs monday, and i was wondering what kind of stratagey should i go with when selecting them? We start QB, 2 WR, 2 RB, TE, W/T, W/R, K, 2 D, 1 DB, 1 DL, 7 BN.
I wouldn't sweat it too much. Ray Lewis and Bulluck go off the board around round 8 or 9 in my league. I usually sit back, grab a good LB or DB after my offensive starters are full, then finish with the D players. I have had decent success with the waiver wire when it comes to these guys. I got Vilma and Briggs there last year. Your scoring is similar to mine. After the top 5 LB's like Lewis, Bulluck, Brooks, Edwards and Sharper, the scoring kind of stays the same for the next 10-15. So I guess it is like WR's. I usually rank guys by solo tackles, since that is consistant points every week. The only DL's worth taking a look at are Julius Peppers and Charles Grant since they get a lot of sacks and decent tackles. Kevin Williams is another DL to look at. Although Yahoo lists LB's as DL's, too, if that is what you are using.
IDP is the only thing I play. The best advice I can give is, follow what you'd do with team defense. Don't reach. Get them with your last few picks.
Someone is going to take Ray Lewis and Ed Reed and Rodney Harrison early. Don't be one of them. So many people emerge on the FA list each year, that you're better off taking someone with offensive value rather than a big name defensive player.
Also, don't take any defensive linemen or cornerbacks, regardless of how many sacks or interceptions they had. Linebackers and safties, with their tackles, are where the real points come from.
QB- M. Vick WR- J. Jones, M. Colston RB- R. Rice, J. Charles TE- A. Hernandez FLEX- D. McFadden, F. Jackson K- G. Zuerlein DEF- Miami
B- T. Romo, J. Kerley, K. Hunter, V. Ballard, D. Thomas, B. Myers, S. Suisham
All solid solid picks, but not in order. I've had most of these guys the past three seasons and all have produced for me.
R. Lewis
D. Edwards
J. Peppers
B. Urlacher
E. Reed
J. Farrior
J. Vilma
A. Wilson
D. Ware (looked ridiculously insane last week vs. Seatle; 1 sack, 2 forced fumbles, 1 fumble recovery, and an interception)

Edit: Oh and are the cafe IDP rankings updated fairly recently? would they be useful while im drafting?
Alot of drafts have people go crazy with top name linemen like Strahan, Kearse, etc. and corners like Ty Law, Chris McAllister, Champ Baily, etc.
This allows valuable linebackers like Donnie Edwards (top scorer last year I think ) to drop. Check out who the top scorers last year were, and take them because they are usually less known and thought of.
London Fletcher was another one last year who did alot of damage.
