thinking portis is going to be up there with tomlinson is just unrealistic.
consider:
a) joe gibbs still basically wants a john riggins runner and is unlikely to change his system to fit clinton portis. if it's going to work, it has to be the other way around.
b) the redskins offense still looks anemic. how many years have they been good since dan snyder bought them? and how many of those were they supposed to be good? if i remember right, his first year of owneship they were pre-season favorites to win the super bowl and well, we know how that worked out.
c) the denver bronocs effect: you have to expect that portis' last year's stats are much more in line with what he's going to get this year than looking, in any fashion, at his years in denver.
d) 1315 yards? that's only 8th best in the league and barely ahead of a couple of players who didn't start all year. and if you move to all-purpose yards, portis looks even worse. include TDs, and the only way you hear tomlinson and portis in the same breath is in something like, "a porsche is to a miata as tomlinson it to ........."
