Am I the only person left that still thinks Portis = STUD?

From what I've been reading in all of these forums, I'm just scratching my head on this one.

Portis was a disappointment for those that drafted him top 3 last year. No doubt. He didn't score as many TDs as he did in Denver. No doubt.

HE STILL RAN FOR 1315 YARDS!
HE HAS ADDED ON 20 POUNDS OF MUSCLE AND IS STILL AS FAST AS HE EVER WAS!

Am I the only one that thinks that he will be a top 5-7 back this year again? The guy is a beast.

...no, you most certainly are not the only one - there is a thread (portis vs JJ) that has probably 60% of the people backing portis - many by a wide margin.

portis will have a great bounce-back year, and he will again be considered an elite back.

It's threads like the JJ thread that forced me to start this.

You are talking about a Portis vs. a very good back in JJ. I personally look at this as people comparing LT2 to Dom Davis. Which would you prefer to have?

thinking portis is going to be up there with tomlinson is just unrealistic.

consider:

a) joe gibbs still basically wants a john riggins runner and is unlikely to change his system to fit clinton portis. if it's going to work, it has to be the other way around.

b) the redskins offense still looks anemic. how many years have they been good since dan snyder bought them? and how many of those were they supposed to be good? if i remember right, his first year of owneship they were pre-season favorites to win the super bowl and well, we know how that worked out.

c) the denver bronocs effect: you have to expect that portis' last year's stats are much more in line with what he's going to get this year than looking, in any fashion, at his years in denver.

d) 1315 yards? that's only 8th best in the league and barely ahead of a couple of players who didn't start all year. and if you move to all-purpose yards, portis looks even worse. include TDs, and the only way you hear tomlinson and portis in the same breath is in something like, "a porsche is to a miata as tomlinson it to ........."

I think he'll do about what he did last year. In any case, much closer to what he did last year than his years in Denver.

He is a great back playing on not such a great team. Portis will have another average year.
