Im sure if you gave them baked beans and hot wings before the game any RB could be explosive.

Michael Bennett, I think we can safely say, is the fastest pads-off running back, if not player, in the game today. Though Santana Moss or Tim Dwight may have something to say about that.

I'm not sure that makes him the most explosive, however.

I know Mike Tice will make that a difficult answer (if he's still around) but I just don't see any of the current roster guys being effective this entire year and I have a chance to scoop him up sometime this year and keep him as a 12th rounder next year.

It's never too early for this type of planning. ;-D

Actually, Michael Bennett and Onterrio Wmmith are both free agents. With the money saved from releasing Randy Moss, I expect the Vikings to let them both go (along with Moe Williams, possibly) and sign a Top RB.

Back on the subject at hand, you have Portis and Bennett, no question. I would say Kevin Jones is a distant... DISTANT 3rd.

Best break away speed should go to Portis, best power back is Jamal Lewis.

Best retired RB's breakaway speed in modern day is no doubt but Bo Jackson. That run he had on MNF against Seattle was the fastest 2nd gear I ever saw. Best power back I ever saw was Earl Cambell. I guy who gets his jersey ripped off his body while running like a bull for the endzone is my kinda guy. I've heard the best open field runner ever was Gayle Sayers but I never saw him play. Of course Jim Brown needs no further comment as well.

I may be going out on a limb here but after seeing LJ last week he looks like he has that extra gear. That first run was a quick 35 yards.

Not saying he is the most explosive but certainly deserves consideration.

Portis is probably up near the top too.
