When stupidity and good intentions meet

Whatever you think of Penn's actions, I agree that there's been far, far too much emphasis on photo ops. I haven't seen anything on this in the domestic media, but foreign journalists have reported some pretty unbelievable things about the effort and manpower devoted to preparing several politicians' photo ops in the days following the disaster.

Maybe I'm missing the picture here and all these photo ops are truly important in raising awareness, bringing in donations, and the like, but it still strikes me as a rather sad sense of priorities.
