I am supposed to interview people I don't know, so if you feel like answering PM me..... here is the question:

“What effects do you think new communication technologies may be having on society,
communities, individuals, or on other aspects of our culture?”

Examples of new media are the Internet (including email, instant messaging, Web pages, blogs) video games, and new ways of delivering information over cell phones, such as music, video, and Web pages

thanks.... GO DREW BENNETT!

I think cell phones will be found to be the root cause of a huge spike in brain tumors.

I think the internet, email blogs etc will be the salvation of the planet in the long ruin as young folk all over the world interact and learn not to hate each other.

All of those are creating a general downfall in the morality of society. The obscenities revealed to children through these technologies at an early age is having harmful effects.

Agree 100% with #1. It is just about what I was going to say.
Plus - I simply do NOT understand this thing with cell phones.
In traffic, at the grocery, the movies, at work, walking down the sidewalk.
What the hell's so important, and who are all these people talking to?
It's a status symbol and a flat-out addiction, IMO.

Agree, more-or-less, with NittanyLions on #2.
The potential is there, but, as usual, it's unused and is
largely a way to never leave the house (I haven't bought a shirt, jeans, shoes, jacket, book, CD or DVD in an actual store for years) , and give kids access to hard porn. Despite all the precautions.

All the new technologies are replacing the old norm of newspapers and radio. Also, all of this is leading to lesser educated young professionals (under 40). My science teacher today told me that the school faculty had to read a book on this talking about how younger people are lesser educated than older people. The author took surverys of young and old people about political questions (ex: Name the Supreme Court Justices) and other questions, and the younger people knew less. In conclusion, while newer technologies are much less of a hassle and more appealing, the older technologies are where the real info is. ;-D

Please... childrens parents slip off bad words all the time and most of them are none worse for the the wear. I suppose video games are the general downfall in society too? Just like rap music was 10 years ago, and rock music was 30 years ago?
