Couldn't be happier/prouder than yesterday. I couldn't tell you the last time the 49ers had a punt return for a TD, it was great to see that we've got a coach in that realizes that you need to win in all phases of the game.
The offense was adequate, I really like the fact that we seem to have a couple of playmakers on offense and that they want to get them involved in different ways. It'll be interesting to see what becomes of the RB situation long term there. I thought Barlow looked tenative like he did last year and I thought Gore looked pretty good for the limited amount of work he was given. I think he could push Barlow sooner rather than later. We get Johnson back and healthy to go over the middle and that offense may just get better.
The defense was what I was most happy with. The switch to the 3-4 really does play to our defensive strength, the LBing corps. I thought Peterson/Smith/Carter all played really well yesterday. Who the heck is Adams, BTW? Dude can cover and hit some folks in the secondary. I thought they played well too. BY was unreal on the line, good to see him get his. I'm glad that they were able to generate as much heat on the QB as they did this first game and were able to start stuffing the run after the first drive. Truth be told though, I'm going to let the jury remain out for a bit on the defense because I don't think that the Rams have the best Oline.
Fantastic win!
