Yeh All Yopu Willie Lovers I have Bad News

Sep 13 Despite gaining a combined 209 yards and scoring his first NFL touchdown in Week 1, Parker sees himself as a role player for the Steelers, the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports.
Recommendation: "I don't have the starting job," Parker said. "I'm a role player. I know those guys are hurt right now. I know what I came in to do. I'm just helping the team out right now. I want to be a starter but I'm not going to say I deserve anything. Jerome deserves it. He's a Hall of Famer. Duce deserves it. He's situated." Parker will start against the Texans in Week 2 while the big backs continue to recover from injuries.

That came from ROTOWIRE minutes ago.

I like Willie Parker. If anything this boosts my respect for him. He's humble, and respects what Bettis and Staley used to be.

Still, Parker is the future for the Steelers. Just because he's humble and a good person doesn't mean anything except good things for his value to the steelers as a teammate, and ultimately, the respect he'll get from cower, which will translate to PT. He never said he couldn't carry the load, in fact, he sees himself as capable of handling 20 carries a game.

By the way, Parker doesn't make lineup decisions. If he's clearly outplaying the injury prone bettis and staley, why wouldn't he get the ball?

Coach wants to win. He'll do whatever he thinks is best for the team and use whatever tools are available in order to make this happen. He's be a fool to fold a winning hand.

This is respectful talk from Willie, I like that in an athlete. It's true, Bettis is a Hall of Famer and Duce is a great RB, but it's Willie time!!!

As I diehard Steelers fan I really think Willie has the starting job until he falters. When all 3 are healthy I see it playing out like this:

Willie getting the bulk of the carries (20-25 total)

Duce as the 3rd down back and spelling Willie for a series or two. (10+/- carries)

Bettis the short yardage and goal line back.

None of the backs in Pitt are selfish and all 3 want to win. I think its a good problem to have becaue every back has injuries along the way. The Steelers have 3 that can carry the load need be. Whatever it takes to win the big one.....
