This is respectful talk from Willie, I like that in an athlete. It's true, Bettis is a Hall of Famer and Duce is a great RB, but it's Willie time!!!

What in the world is the hang up on Duce Staley?

Let's examine what he has done for Cowher in his one, and only season, and why exactly Cowher will definitely be sending Duce back out to the starting lineup when he returns from injury.

10 games last year.

Missed weeks 9,10,11,12,15,16. Hamstring Hall of Famer.

192 attempts, 830 yards. 6 receptions, 55 yards.

ONE total touchdown.

Spare me the Bettis excuse. You touch the ball 200 times, you better have more than 1 touchdown to show for it.

Cowher NEEDS to run the ball. And right now neither back from last year look like anything remotely close to dependable.

Dynamic? Healthy? Fast?

Totally drunk on it. I put a lot of faith into Willie heading into this season and took a big risk going a bit short at RB around him, so far so good.

This is just "the right thing to say" from Willie, just like Duce and Bettis have both said Willie brings something to the table that they don't. I think Houston's run D is a bit underrated, but if he lights it up again in the next few weeks then he won't be sent back to the bench. Cowher has proven time and again that he has no loyalty to injured players and will stick with the hot hand.

As I diehard Steelers fan I really think Willie has the starting job until he falters. When all 3 are healthy I see it playing out like this:

Willie getting the bulk of the carries (20-25 total)

Duce as the 3rd down back and spelling Willie for a series or two. (10+/- carries)

Bettis the short yardage and goal line back.

None of the backs in Pitt are selfish and all 3 want to win. I think its a good problem to have becaue every back has injuries along the way. The Steelers have 3 that can carry the load need be. Whatever it takes to win the big one.....

I agree. HOU D gives up alot of yards but they only gave up 4 RB touchdowns all of last year (correct me if i'm wrong). As far as I can remember that was 3rd in the league.

I love his attitude. It makes me want to root for him more and more. I don't get it though...why did the person who wrote this say it's bad news? If anything, this just makes us love him more.

I think the peole that are doubting him are the one's who didn't have the foresight to draft him late or get him off the waiver wire early.

Pete hit the nail on the head as far as what will happen when all are healthy.

Why in the world would you replace a young, fast, quick RB for an old, slow, injury prone back?

Staley is serviceable but Parker takes it to another level.
