Some observations:

Look for Gates to take most of those McCardell looks away from him in Week 2.

Chris Chambers is going to have a nice year. Frerotte is able to get the ball to him, which was the concern, and he's looking for him often.

Hasselbeck trusts Bobby Engram as the posession receiver.

Jimmy Smith too old? Reggie Williams emerging soon? Nah, the old man is back.

Bulger can't be accused of locking in on one receiver all the time, or only looking for Holt.

We may see more breakout TE's that we though, with guys like Alex Smith, Putzier, Chris Baker, etc. getting lots of attention from their respective QB's.

I would say Clayton is still the man! He is spreading the ball because they can win games that way dude.

S.smiths numbers are wrong he was targeted 16 times as reported by KFFL

Sep 11 Steve Smith is back. The fiery Panthers wideout caught eight passes for 138 yards and a touchdown against the Saints.

Views: Jake Delhomme targeted Smith 16 times on Sunday, so clearly he knows who his top offensive weapon is. Steve has clearly regained all the speed and moves that led to his 1,100-yard season in 2003.

Both are right in a round-about way. He was targeted 16 times, but 3 of those plays were nullified because of penalties. Therefore, he was really only targeted 13 times from a legitimate statistical standpoint.

i would agree that it's by spreading the ball that they win games. last year, they didn't have anyone else to spread the ball TO. mccardell and keyshawn both respectively flaked, leaving clayton as the only one to hit. don't expect a repeat of last year from him. it's not that last year he was that amazingly good... it was that he was the only one left in the cupboard.

Awesome. My three wide receivers right in a row(Burleson, Clayton, Driver), tied for 20th, coincidentally with my week 1 TE, Jerramy Stevens. :-P No wonder I freakin' lost by 1 point to the D-Mac owner! :-#
