Last season I switched between Seahawks and Steelers D and it worked out alright for me. I was thinking about dropping my 2nd string QB - Leftwich - and picking up a third D from free agent pool. T. Green is my starting QB and I will not need to bench him. My current D's are Carolina and Cincinnati. Also, someone just dropped Redskins D so I could pick them up.

Well I have no idea how Buffalo is available as you made it seem like in your post. If they are drop CIN for them. I usually only like to carry 2 DEF at most on my teams. I would rather have Lefty than a 3rd DEF.

Your matchups are decent through week 5.
wk2 Min at Cinc Cinc is a decent play here
wk3 Car at Mia Don't believe Mia is as good as they looked
wk4 Hou at cin hou is sack and turnover city
GB at Car this is ok too but I like cin better
wk5 Car at ari Warner loves gettin sacked and throwin Int's

Leftwich has a good matchup in week 5 against Cincinati. And Green has his bye in week 5. I would wait till after week 5 to go to a third defense.

edit* I didn't notice that bills d and wash d are avail in your league. I would drop cin and grab one of em for sure. Bills first.

There is never a good reason to pick up at 3rd defense and drop your backup QB, especially a good backup like Leftwich. If anything, drop one of your defenses, otherwise, stand pat.
