Do I pick up on some bitterness? Kicking yourself over a blown early-round flyer on Mr. Vick?
A couple years back, you maybe could have called him over-rated, fantasy-wise. People aren't quite so sold on him as a fantasy QB these days. And for pretty good reason: It will always be easier to score through the air than on the ground, as a QB. And, yes, his tendency to run freely adds the risk of injury.
As an NFL quarterback, I'd not say he's over-rated. Defenses tailor their game plan around the guy. It gives Dunn and Duckett room to operate. It gives Crumpler lanes for catching the ball. And if Jenkins or someone else can step up, the long ball becomes an option as secondaries concernt hemselves with containing Vick.
But the guy is clearly still developing. Still discovering exactly what sort of NFL QB he is to become. To me, he looks out of control at times, or on the verge of it. That long ball that Jenkins dropped yesterday, for instance: many QBs would have gone straight down, but Vick evaded his pursuers, ran to the outside and, quite accurately, found Jenkins streaking down the field. But it was like jenkins was caught unawares. Like he wasn't expecting it. A better play would have been a quick screen to a back, or to a tight end.
McNabb is not in the same league as Vick, as far as mobility goes. But he can still get around nicely. But he's developed into a passing threat. Vick will too, eventually.
