Dilfer wins Player of the Week
September 21, 2005
Browns quarterback Trent Dilfer has been named AFC Offensive Player of the Week, the NFL announced this morning.
Dilfer led the Browns to a 26-24 win over Green Bay last Sunday by completing 21-of-32 passes for 336 yards, with 3 touchdown passes and a 131.8 quarterback rating.
Dilfer currently ranks fifth in the NFL with a 95.1 QB rating for the season. His 336 yards passing marked the second highest total of his 12-year career.
The victory over the Packers was Dilfer's first career win at Green Bay. Dilfer connected on several big plays in the victory, including an 80-yard scoring pass to rookie wide receiver Braylon Edwards and two touchdown passes to tight end Steve Heiden, a 1-yard touchdown toss and a 62-yarder late in the 4th quarter to secure the win.
Dilfer started the game in fine fashion by connecting on his first eight passes as he orchestrated a 10-play, 71-yard touchdown drive, capped by the 1-yard touchdown pass to Heiden. Dilfer connected on all six passes (for 60 yards) on the Browns opening drive.
Hopefully he can continue his success this week against the Colts. We are definitely going to need it and a whole lot more.
