Best backup running backs?

Postby mat123 » Wed Sep 03, 2003 9:50 pm

I was wondering who are the best #2 RBs on the depth chart out there.

For example, if Shaun Alexander gets hurt, I think Maurice Morris would be a great RB.

Others I was thinking of:
Mungro if James gets hurt
Mike Anderson if Portis goes down

Basically, which backups could develop into Fantasy Studs?

Any thoughts?

Toefield is a solid choice backing up Fraud Taylor.
Lamar Gordon for the Rams, even if Faulk doesn't get hurt, Gordon might steal some carries from him, especially near the goal line.

not that this is a ringing disagreement...but i will say the rams RARELY pull a healthy Faulk out regardless of field position.

Sure, you could argue its relative to the formation...but nobody in the NFL besides Vick commands more "where is he?" defensive attention on the field than Faulk. And I'd hope that Martz wouldn't sit that advantage on the bench.

mooch, i felt the same way about toefield until fuamatu showed up. i'm assuming that his arrival puts lebrandon 3rd on the depth chart.

scrap that. i just read that he's the number 2, fufumudda mullet-follaya is the number 3. from cbs:

Analysis: It is unlikely Fuamatu-Ma'afala will have much of an impact from a Fantasy perspective early on. He takes over the role of the released Elvis Joseph as the No. 3 back. If Fred Taylor or LaBrandon Toefield go down to injury, he is worth adding in larger leagues.

but i have a new assignment for you. rank thomas jones, toefield and lamont jordan in terms of how likely each is to blow it up this season.

I think Ben just hijacked Mat123's thread. :-)

lamont jordan is a solid back-up for c.martin.
d.foster for s.davis.
shipp for e.smith.
those are my top three with lamar gordon for faulk.

Well Barlow is an obvious one. I'd also go with TJ Duckett, and Moe Williams (officially he's starting, but for fantasy purposes he's really being considered #2 after Smith). I also agree with some of the names already mentioned.
