I seem to recall another QB having an awful first 6 or 7 games in his first starts after riding the pine his rookie year. Oh yeah, Carson Palmer.
Comparing him to Palmer is a complete joke ..
Hmm, let's review:
Palmer:
- Sat on the bench his rookie year while his team narrowly missed the playoffs
- Was awarded job to begin his 2nd year, no QB contraversy
- 67.3 QB rating after first 3 games
- 2 TDs, 6 turnovers, and 10 sacks after 3 games
Losman
- Sat on the bench his rookie year while his team narrowly missed the playoffs
- Was awarded job to begin his 2nd year, no QB contraversy
- 61 QB rating after first 3 games
- 1 TD, 2 turnovers, and 7 sacks after 3 games
If anything Losman is ahead of the curve for a rookie QB. Seeing how Palmer faired with a better offense around him than Losman has, it's easy to conclude that Losman is doing just fine for a rookie. Their careers so far are very comparable, and will become even more comparable when the Bills don't make the playoffs (sorry Bills fans, but SD, Cincy, and the Jags all have much better shots).
So, in conclusion, no, it's not a joke, its a very accurate comparison. People started calling for Carson Palmer's head last season too, but those fans would probably prefer if we forget how impatient they were in forgetting they're sacrificing a season to develop a franchise QB.
