SELL High on Ward?

Postby BigMusky » Sun Sep 25, 2005 9:59 pm

The guy has already surpassed many peoples expectations for season total TD"s. Pitt is not throwing the ball alot, especially when they can run which is against 90% of the NFL..so is it reasonable to suspect that the first three weeks of the season are about as good as it gets for Ward and only goes down hill from here. Even if he ends up with 10 total TD's, that is only 6 spread over the next 14 weeks.

Right now, I would only rather have 3 other WRs. Johnson, Moss and Owens. Why do you say he has to be capped at 10 TDs, because that is the norm? He has 4 TDs, and I can see him easily scoring 12 (8 over the next 13 games). The one thing I'm worried about is his hamstring injury at the end of the game. If you get the right price, go ahead and pull the trigger but he's a top 5 WR.

Well...if people think Ward is a top 5 receiver right now then I would definitely say the time is right to sell on him :)

I would. I wasn't too big on him at the beginning of the year. He is certainly proving me wrong, but much like last year I would think he'll fade away sooner than later. Then again, Plax is gone, so maybe he'll be great all year.

Thats dumb. Why sell him? He is clearly the reciever who will get most alll the scoring looks. Ben is great, why sell?

Keep him.

Depends if you need to sell him and what you can get for him. The guy was a consensus top 10 fantasy WR going inot last year. Rookie QB comes in, ultra-commitment to the running game, and he has a down year. Now, Ben's more comfortable, the Steelers won't play with the lead nearly as often, thus more throws, and without Burress there, Ward is always the first look. Ward was a great draft low guy this year, and you should likely keep him, as I expect he'll outperform many pre-draft rankings.

I have Ward am considering moving him, but right now only if I could get Randy Moss. Already have TO. Would also trade him for Chad Johnson.

People forget that Hines Ward has a nose for the endzone. He caught 80 passes last season and only scored 4 TDs... but that was last season. Before 2004, Ward had back to back seasons with 90+/1100+/10+

Before Pittsburgh had an all world defense, back when Tommy Maddox actually looked for him due to his toughness and ability to make tough catches in the redzone, before the Steeler's were a 15-1 team on the back of their rookie QB who loved to roll to his right. Hines Ward was a STUD. Roetherlisberger is just getting better, so expect Hines Ward to maintain his status as the goto WR on the Steeler's. Expect him to catch more than 80 passes for more than 1,000 yards with a good chance for double digit touchdowns.
---

Even with the passing game attempting only 10, 20, MAYBE 30 passes a game at the most (very low number) Ward is still getting enough looks to be a productive player. Ward has 12 receptions right now and 4 TDs.... The rest of the ENTIRE TEAM combined has 23 receptions and 2 TDs.. Sure the TDs will go down (4 TD/ 3 games? c'mon), but Ward is already established as the goto WR on that offense.

You already knew you were getting the #1 WR on a run first team, why does it surprise you that he is getting the vast majority of the receptions and fantasy production on that team? Just because he had a bad season last year?
