I admire the courage, but I know what his team was asking of him and what he did was kind of stupid.

I know what a hamstring injury from personal experience. If you kick once and it pulls, it's not going to feel any better the next time you kick. As a matter of fact, you could injure yourself permanently.

Shame on the Eagles for putting Akers in a situation where he is their only competent kicker.

couple of thoughts:

Reid is usually clever, but he was an idiot in this situation.

The Raiders had I think 5 or 6 possessions at or near midfield to start.

I think it is quite amazing that the Eagles d held them off as long as they did.

but the missed pat, and the great field position really almost cost the game.

I gotta agree, the Eagles definitely should've dressed an extra kicker.

The field position Oakland got off of kickoffs was pretty brutal, but man did the defense shut down Oakland for the most part. Probably my favorite had to be Sheppard getting into a jump ball situation with Moss, and managing to bat the ball out of Moss's hands. That's about as tough as it gets for a CB.

Akers was hands down a hero, but I'm still disappointed that the Eagles hadn't prepared for this scenario.

He better not be in the final year of his contract, or if he is the Eagles better open up their wallets for him. You don't ask a guy to sacrifice his health like that and then not remain loyal to him. Too bad that the Eagles are not known for their loyalty.

Another thing though is how the heck can their backup kicker be a linebacker? He just sucked. Why don't they have a second kicker? Why can't Dirk Johnson kick. Is he so specialized that he can only punt and he can't kick? Not even an extra point? Give me a break - Akers is the back up punter, Johnson should learn how to kick.
