Should Canidate Lose Starting Role?

Postby Another_Steeler_Guy » Thu Sep 04, 2003 11:14 pm

I have Trung Canidate as my starter, but im pretty pissed that he didnt get more than 10 carries Thursday night, for 40 some yards. Ladell Betts looked good rushing for 77 yards with 8 more carries that Trung. Madden made a statement that Betts proved he should be the starter. What do you think???

doesn't really matter - with Spurrier coaching I wouldn't start either of them

That was junk. Canidate looked good when he got the ball. I'm not playing him again until he starts getting all the carries. I hate Spurrier. The SOB killed me last year with Davis as well. He is a RB killer.

I have always liked Betts and have thought he would get the starting job since last season. Canidate had a series of 3 runs in a row that looked good but I thought Betts had a nice combo of quickness and power. And saying that you wouldn't consider either because Spurrier is coach might be stupid. Granted I am a Redskins fan but the fact that the Spurrier ran the ball in the Red Zone (or something like that they mentioned during the game) over 70% and it was the most in the NFL last year. Now I gotta think that and the fact that the Skins vamped up their o-line should make one of these guys look very appealing should they become overall starter

Betts looked good but I think Canidate was better. He averaged more yards per carry, so the only reason Betts had more yards is because he had more carries.

I think as the weeks go on, Trung will get more of the touches; plus he is for sure a bigger long-distance threat. Spurrier can't resist the possiblities of throwin him screens and giving him draws...It may just take a few weeks. Betts is decent, but nothing special.

Betts average may was reduced by his goal-line carries. The one thing I saw that makes me think Betts will eventually get the bulk of the carries was when Trung did his usual matador blocking on the play Ramsey ducked under on to avoid the sack. Let him get knocked on his as*, and Spurrier will have a Canidate for the bench!

Good call Moochman, I was wondering if anyone else noticed Trung's "block". That was absolutely ridiculous. In his defense (if you want to call it a reasonable defense) it looked like he missed his assignment more than just threw a crappy block, but the fact remains Spurrier's golden boy QB almost got his head knocked off by a bad play by a RB, and you know Steve-o's not happy about that (anyone who has owned Stephen Davis he has a quick fuse with RBs), so expect him to dictate PT by discipline and doing things away from the ball as much as with it.

Betts had apparently lost his job by trung showing up.. but it looks like spurrier may stick with him a bit..

as far as trung's ypc, he was running in the 4th quarter when everyone else was tired and he was fresher

just some thoughts. it really doesnt matter to me as long as the Eagles finish what they failed the last two years..

I'd just get used to RBBC in Washington all season long. That's the way it's going to be.
