i guess i'm changing my alias soon but why no abraham next year, we dropped jordan to sign him also. Also if the jets land volek and somehow get him for only a second round pick i would expect them to target reggie bush

Well the talk I heard was he wouldn't stay with the Jets if it was a no chance year. He would want to go somewhere with a shot at the play-offs. So, the point made was that they need to do this thing this year. They really can't afford a rebuilding year.

Guys this trade was never even close to happening. It's very rare that a team trades a valuable backup THREE GAMES INTO THE YEAR. Especially when you have a qb like McNair who tends to get injured every year. I'm sure the Titans would have pulled the trigger at a certain point, but I seriously doubt the Jets ever would have done that.
The only reason we signed Mauck off the practice squad is because we want to keep him around, and didn't want the Jets to sign him. NOT because a deal was imminent.
Anyway, the Titans would be absolutely nuts to do this trade this early in a season. Having Matt Mauck or Doug Johnson as your qb would be a recipe for disaster.

Shane Matthews and a 2nd or 3rd round pick from the bills
for
Eric Barton
The bills just lost their best defensive player and need the help, and matthews knows heimys offense.
do you think Matthews is an upgrade over Vinny?

personally i think the jets still would have a shot at the playoffs IF they got billy volek. The rest of the team is still good, and the patriots and bills both suffered HUGE losses this weekend.
And I think that Chad Pennington has been incredibly overrated for his whole career, ever since he took over for vinny and went on that unbelievable run. I think that Volek would be almost as good for the Jets as a healthy penny would be.
just for anybody still thinking ramsey was a possibility:
Vinny Cerrato, Washington's vice president of football operations, said he had a "10-second conversation" with Jets assistant general manager Mike Tannenbaum on the matter. "We told them we're very happy with our quarterback situation," Cerrato said, "and we're not interested in making a trade."
NFL executives contacted yesterday said they do not believe Washington would trade its backup passer before next month's trade deadline, although they anticipate a parting of ways in the offseason. "Is there a market for Ramsey? Yeah," one general manager said. "But we really believe they're going to need two quarterbacks, and they have to know that, too. What happens if [Mark] Brunell goes down?" Another general manager said: "Gibbs is not going to trade [Ramsey]. He's always wanted depth at quarterback. I could see why Ramsey would want out, but it's not going to happen anytime soon with Gibbs calling the shots there."
