Mitchell will be used as mostly a change of pace back or to give Tiki a breather. This is an exerpt from the "Newark Star-Ledger" on the situation.
With RB Tiki Barber in need of a breather after rushing for 37 yards on the previous two plays, return specialist Brian Mitchell -- for whom playing running back had become almost an afterthought -- got the call on the 1-yard line Sunday in the Giants' 23-13 season-opening victory over the Rams.
Mitchell responded by scoring his first rushing TD since 1999. But it might not be his last.
"For what we do and what we're asking him to do, he's fine," coach Jim Fassel said yesterday at Giants Stadium. "He's got the right role. He'll back up on that short-yardage stuff."
