Leave Schaub In and Bench Vick? This guy says so!

Postby BrutallyHuge » Mon Oct 10, 2005 9:16 am

From Fanball:

The NFL would never allow it. ESPN would shorten SportsCenter to 15 minutes. And EA Sports would finally have to reconsider their most egregious player value mis-ranking ever. But it needs to be said: Matt Schaub gives Atlanta a better chance of winning than Michael Vick. Period. Sure, Vick is a walking highlight film, but Schaub can actually pass. In just his second career start, he threw three touchdown passes last Sunday—something Vick has never done. Does Vick win games with his feet? Sure, sometimes. But a quarterback can win games every week with his arm. Fantasy owners already know that Vick is totally overrated. The rest of the world is beginning to learn the same thing.

It'll never happen as long as Vick is healthy.

Schaub is to Vick what Volek is to McNair...the injuries are inevitavble with the #1, so you make sure your #2 is well prepared.

If the Falcons have Vick, they don't lose that game. Schaub has a good fantasy game but 18 for 34 is nothing to write home about.

Win a couple of games?

Hasn't Vick led the Falcons to the playoffs twice in his career? Dummy.

If taking snaps from the center means "led," then Vick "led" the Falcons to the playoffs.

Others would argue that a great running game and a great defense allowed them to get to the playoffs despite Vick's fumbling and unbelievably bad accuracy.

This is actually pretty dumb. At the end of the game, it doesn't matter if Schaub threw 3 TDs or 10 TDs. It matters only if they win the game. He didn't lead them to a win and Vick may have. It's as simple as that.

Where was that great running game when Doug Johnson was behind center in 2003?

The fact is, their offense is designed completely around Vick. Without Vick they don't run as well. Without Vick they don't control the clock. Without Vick they don't even have good play action. Jeez, With Vick the Falcons can Play action run vick. He's a good NFL QB. Shaub is a decent Passer that exploited a very weak Pats secondary because Bellichick underestimated him. He thought if they shut down the run game then Shaub would choke. He was wrong.
