According to ESPN.com, the Dolphins have traded RB Jesse Chatman to the Saints for an undisclosed draft pick.
With Deuce McAllister out for the season New Orleans needed running back help, and with Ricky Williams returning from his suspension this week Miami had some depth to spare.

So now the Saints have A. Smith, Stecker & Chatman. Probably a RBBC?

Geez, another RB to consider. I still have to say that Smith will get most of the carries, with maybe Chatman to do the goal line stuff or 3rd downs. Stecker's in there too. It's a mess.. have to see what happens.
Chatman was the guy the Chargers went to last year when LT@ was dinged up and they were ahead by enough to be running the clock out.
Personally, I think he's better than Stecker (who's a sprinter) and Smith (who couldn't pick up the slack for Brown in Tenn last year when Brown's turf toe held him out of a game or two), so I'm drafting him.
I added him as a wait and see, but Stecker and Smith are already gone in one league and I added Chatman over Stecker in another league where Smith was gone.
The guy to grab in this situation is and always has been Antowain Smith IMO. Even if they decide to use Stecker as change of pace (likely), Smith is going to get the majority of the goalline looks and hold the most fantasy value.
Chatman was brought in as insurance in case either Smith or Stecker went down, because neither Smith nor Stecker will be expected, or asked, to carry the workload like Deuce was. I expect him to take a couple weeks, or myabe several weeks, to work himself into a role on the offense.
I think your average game split will look something like:
Fanball.com wrote:Oct 11 Roughly 24 hours after learning that they had lost running back Deuce McAllister to a season-ending knee injury, the Saints acquired tailback Jesse Chatman in a trade with the Dolphins, ESPN.com reported Tuesday. No word yet as to what the Saints gave up in exchange for Chatman, who had 65 carries for 392 yards and three touchdowns with the Chargers last season. Views: This trade doesn't change the fact that the Saints plan to split carries between Aaron Stecker and Antowain Smith. In other words, Chatman was added for depth purposes and possesses no fantasy value at this time.
