Harrington Toast....Garcia?

Postby footballchick23 » Mon Oct 17, 2005 10:06 am

So who's the new scapegoat in Detroit.... Garcia (when healthy)? I doubt Joey is going to be taking the field again after that performance yesterday...any thoughts/new homers?

That's the beauty of it, the Lions have no QB in place. Garcia isn't ready and has no arm strength. Orlovski is a rook who is being trained by Mariucci, so his career is going nowhere. They will try to pin everything on injuries and Mariucci will likely focus on how hard they played and how close they are to turning things around. Blah Blah Blah

I fully expect Harrington to start next week and Orlovski to replace him in the second half if he can't manage to have a lead against the Brownies. Once Garcia is ready, Joey is one bad series from the bench.

Interesting enough - its the non-detroit people who scapegoat Joey more than the actual Lions fans. Dont get me wrong - Id say about half the DET fans are obsessed with Harrington and think he's the root of all the problems - the other half know that Det's problems are much deeper than the QB.

Basically everyone knows Joey is a poor QB and he makes terrible decisions - however, Id say the fans following the situation the closest have a laundry list of things that this team could do to get better and replacing the QB is just one of them.

Also - Id say trading for Rivers would be a stupid mistake. The last thing this team needs is to go through another learning phase with a young QB. The Lions need a QB that simply wont make mistakes - a veteran who can manage the game (note - Garthia is not that guy).

So 65,000 DET fans yelling "Joey Sucks" and booing after he pumped his fist after the big completion to Pollard is not scapegoating? I do know what you're saying though and I think the boos come more out of frustration...it's never really just one player's fault for the downfall of an entire team, but it can definitely be a huge portion!

Despite all of these things, let's not forget that Detroit is a legitimate playoff contender.

All they have to do is win the NFC North.

That almost makes talking about making changes, developing a new QB or rebuilding harder since they could 6-10 or 7-9 themselves into a division title.

Funny you bring that up Dude.

If the refs hadnt taken the TB game away from DET on a blown call, and if DET could have stopped CAR's backup QB from scoring with 30 seconds to go in the game, we are talking about a 4-1 team. Granted it would have probably been the worst 4-1 team in NFL history by quite a lot, but its something to think about.

Detroit has a great chance to win the NFC North. I think Green Bay could come back and win more games but Detroit will win probably at 7-9 only to make a really boring wildcard playoff game matchup @ Seattle or someone.
