When is a Sack not a Sack.

What is the ruling on Carr fumbling the snap behind the line of scrimage, falling on it and being tackled. How is that not a sack. I need to know because I just found out that my league has a stupid tie break system. So that one point is critical for me.

In Carr's case becuase he fumbled before getting hit and as he was backing away from center it is ruled a rushing attempt by Carr, not a sack. I think he would have had to establish intent to pass, which he did not do at the time of the fumble.

Not being in my position, in your opinion, should that be a sack?
Considering if a Quarterback runs out of bounds behind the line of scrimage it's ruled a sack.

Sure that might work for a national Televised game, because evryone saw it. But, things like that happen all the time in games. No commissioner has the time or desire to go through the play by play for each game played- even if he/she could, because of the way the rules are laid out, it would just show a rush for negative yards.

I do think that since he was backing away from the center when he fumbled there was no way they could say that he was attempting to set up for a pass, so a sack wouldn't be a given.
