McCown or Warner? Who will be the starter in week 7

Postby bryan1327 » Wed Oct 19, 2005 5:34 am

So, any one know who will get the start? Pull the plug on Warner, and just let McCown run it? Or the old saying..."you never loose the starting job to injury"..?

Thanks..

I'm betting that it's a game-time decision...I guess Green thinks the other team really cares. ;-7

Yahoo! player update thingy wrote:Oct 18 Kurt Warner and Josh McCown both took snaps with the Cardinals first-team offense during practice on Monday, but head coach Dennis Green has yet to announce a starter. "(Warner) has made great strides, and we'll determine at a later date if that stride is enough for him to be the starting quarterback or if Josh McCown will continue to start," Green told the Arizona Republic. McCown started the last two games while Warner was nursing a groin injury.

Views: For what it's worth, Warner worked with the starters for the first 30 minutes of practice on Monday before McCown stepped in. The word in Arizona is that Green won't make an official announcement until just before kickoff on Sunday. The Cards play a late-afternoon game, so this is lousy news for fantasy owners who have to set their lineups before the early games kickoff.

I have a friend that covers the Cardinals for Rotowire (I think)...maybe he knows more.

God I hate Green....

Let's compare the stats

McCown-age 26-928 passing yds-4 tds-5 ints-76% completion
Warner-age 34-696 passing yds-1 td-2 ints-64% completion

McCown is younger and more mobile than Warner is. What the heck does Denny Green have against McCown? :-t

I feel bad for Warner, but you have to go with McCown.

Since the start of 2003, the Cardinals are 8-10 when McCown starts and 3-16 when someone else starts.

Umm.. Duh?

Why do you feel bad for Mrs. Warner's Husband?

Yahoo said that they had made there decision on QB and would wait until right before the game to announce. Stinks for leagues that need there lineups in before kickoff of the first game.

Because he's washed up and he still thinks he's a Pro-Bowl QB.

Kinda sad to see that.

I think the guy's a bit of a kook, but I like him for his kookiness. He's harmless, in an "Aw, shucks" kind of way. Mrs. Warner is a bit of a nit and a pain to boot, but you've also got to like how she stands up for her man. I'm not using her as an example for MY wife, but she's got his back, and that's cool.

I respect Warner's play with the Rams, and I wish he could still perform at that level. He was a lot of fun to watch when he was on top of his game.

I think there's a clipboard and whistle in his future, maybe in the Arena league, maybe college and eventually the NFL. I think he's got a good football head on his shoulders. I'd like to see him succeed, but it's clear to everyone except him and Denny that his playing days are done. And that's too bad.

I guess Im just not a Warner fan - never really have been. I 've never seen him as a team player, and his actions the past couple weeks only drove that point home more. I see him as a selfish, overhyped player who had maybe 2-3 good years in his career and his reputation as a good, smart, accurate QB came from the system he was in instead of actually being that talented.

As for his wife - yeah, she basically hits on a lot of pet peeves of mine too.

He will always be Mrs. Warner's Husband in my book, and I have no sympathy that an overrated QB's career is coming to an end. I know that sounds cold and all, but there are just some people who rub you the wrong way - and besides, he's recieved his payday - go retire.
