This would seem to suggest that Tice is going to give Smith more carries ...

"Tice said rookies Onterrio Smith and EJ Henderson will get more playing against Detroit based on their production against the Bears. Smith will backup Moe Williams at tailback and Henderson will play a couple of series at linebacker in nickel-defensive packages."

from the StarTribune:

Smith had nine carries for 47 yards (5.2-yard average) and one catch for nine yards in last week's 24-13 victory over Chicago. He didn't play the week before against Green Bay because he hadn't learned his pass protections and routes.

Offensive coordinator Scott Linehan said Smith now can be trusted in the passing game. That's good news for the Vikings, who aren't sure whether running back Doug Chapman will return this week from an ankle injury.

"Moe can play as many downs as we need him to, but he's such a physical-style runner that it's hard for him to hold up 70 snaps the way he plays," Linehan said. "You need a complementary player for Moe. We have kind of a 1-2 punch developing with Moe and Onterrio."
