Smith had nine carries for 47 yards (5.2-yard average) and one catch for nine yards in last week's 24-13 victory over Chicago. He didn't play the week before against Green Bay because he hadn't learned his pass protections and routes.
Offensive coordinator Scott Linehan said Smith now can be trusted in the passing game. That's good news for the Vikings, who aren't sure whether running back Doug Chapman will return this week from an ankle injury.
"Moe can play as many downs as we need him to, but he's such a physical-style runner that it's hard for him to hold up 70 snaps the way he plays," Linehan said. "You need a complementary player for Moe. We have kind of a 1-2 punch developing with Moe and Onterrio."
