Devil Came Down From Georgetown

The secret behind Mark Brunell's resurgence.
(Apologies to the Charlie Daniels Band)

The devil came down from Georgetown
He was looking for a soul to steal
He was in a spot, his team wasn’t hot
And he was willing to make a deal
When he came across this old man
riddin’ the pine, his job on the line
And the devil jumped up on a hickory stump
And said, "Boy" let me tell you what
I guess you didn't know it
But I'm a ball player too
And if you'd care to take a dare
I'll make a bet with you
You’ve had a nice career, boy
But give the devil his due
I'll bet an arm of gold against your soul
Cause I think I'm better than you
The man said well "I’m Mark Brunell
And it might be a sin
But I'll take you bet, your gonna regret
Cause I'm the QB of the ‘skins"

You better loosen up
and put on your cup
Gonna fire up Fedex
Call it in the air
And if you win
You’ll have a young, strong arm of gold
But if you lose, the devil gets your soul

The Devil took the snap
And he threw down field
And fire flew from his finger tips
A serpent pulled it down
but put it on the ground
And the ‘skins jumped on the ball
Mark limped on the field
checked the D and then he changed the call

Mark stood in the shotgun
and Clinton wanted to run
But the bomb was the call
And Mark called on his tired old gun

Fire up the sideline run boys run
Devil’s in the backfield, Mark’s on the run
Clinton slows the blitz, Mark gets off the throw
Santana shakes his man now he’s on the go

The devil bowed his head
Because he knew that he'd been beat
And he laid that golden arm
On the ground by Brunell’s cleats
Mark said "Devil just come on back
If you ever want to try again
I done told you once, you son of a bitch
You’ll never beat the ‘skins

Fire up the sideline run boys run
Devils in the backfield, Mark on the run
Clinton slows the blitz Mark gets off the throw
Santana shakes his man now he’s on the go
