Here is the reason for Brunell's success:

I was imagining pictures of Mark Brunell taking 5-step drops, scrambling and tossing the rock as I read the lyrics.... 'wasn't too inspiring.

It almost seemed lame to me since "The Devil Went Down to Georgia" evokes a feeling of coolness and Mark Brunell, well "cool" never enters my mind when I think about him. It doesn't seem to fit.

I think the song would have to be about a player who was a "badass" to not be lame. This tune would be better suited for Brett Favre or a QB who has some kind of coolness factor. Probably even more suited to highlights of a defensive badass player....

It was funny, just in a lame sort of way. I think mixing football with musical whimsy has always been somewhat lame.

Case in point: "Superbowl Shuffle"

There are others, but because they were lame they didn't warrant consideration for storage in my brain.

I thought it was funny until some of the lyrics started going their own way and not matching up with the song. I agree about the fact it should have been about a great QB like Favre (until the last couple of years) and not about Brunell, but hey, that's who the guy was thinking of when he wrote it. Now the Shuffle...it's a bit backwards. In the Brunell case you have a cool song/not-so-cool QB, but the Shuffle was a gay song written for some cool guys. But it's still funny to read stuff like this outside the norm of stats and predictions.
