Jimmy Smith and his schedule

Postby Alkaholik » Mon Oct 31, 2005 5:08 pm

I was scoutin WR's to pickup for a push into the FF playoffs that will help me.

I found one that struck me and I had to have.

Jimmy Smith.

Here is his schedule for the rest of the year:
HOU
BAL
TEN
ARI
CLE
IND*
SF
HOU - week 16

He only has one hard challenge out of all of those, so i just traded Curtis Martin for him.

What do you guys think about goin out to get him for a late season and FF playoff run?

I've got him in two leagues and was very happy through the first 4 weeks of the season. Over the past 3 weeks though he has failed to put up 5 points in a game. He's gone up against the Bengals, Steelers, and Rams during that time. Pitt's D is good, but neither Cinci or St Louis have that stellar of a pass D. In both leagues I am considering benching him this week even though he is going against the Houston D.

Overall, I think he'll bounce back from this slump he's in and turn around to have some good games against those horrible defenses, but right now I'm a little wary of starting him until he comes out of this slump he's in.

I think he is a solid guy for the rest of the season, sure. Something I think that needs to be factored in though is how soft those teams are against the run as well. Taylor has proven that he can run and the Jags D has been doing well this year. Just how much will they actually need to throw the ball?

I wouldn't mind seeing what WR's have soft pass defenses coming up that are tough against the run. These things are so hard to predict. Santana Moss should have been huge against a soft Giants pass defense last weekend and look how that turned out.

You asked for it, you got it:

Here are each of the teams the Jags play and what their D ranks:

Week 9: HOU - (Pass 18) (Rush 32)
Week 10: BAL - (Pass 2) (Rush 5)
Week 11: TEN - (Pass 15) (Rush 20)
Week 12: ARI - (Pass 17) (Rush 14)
Week 13: CLE - (Pass 20) (Rush 25)
Week 14: IND - (Pass 7) (Rush 13)
Week 15: SF - (Pass 32) (Rush 17)
Week 16: HOU - (Pass 18) (Rush 32)

Now here is the rank for Fantasy Points givin to WR's:
(1st ranked = givin up least points to WR)

Week 9: HOU - (20)
Week 10: BAL - (1)
Week 11: TEN - (30)
Week 12: ARI - (17)
Week 13: CLE - (9)
Week 14: IND - (4)
Week 15: SF - (32)
Week 16: HOU - (20)

Jacksonville has a very favorable schedule if you're looking at their defense. Offensive side of the ball... Jimmy is your textbook solid #2 WR.. Always has and always will be an 1100/7 type guy.

Nice, that does look very good for Smith doesn't it? I have him in one of three leagues and he started off hot, but has cooled off significantly as of late. Is there a site for these numbers that you came up with or did you come up with these on your own. I am looking for a solid 3rd WR in my other two leagues. Jimmy could be that guy. I have Steve Smith and Randy Moss in the one league and Steve Smith and Santana Moss in the other.

You can customize it to your scoring system too if you register for free.

Jimmy Smith is the kind of guy that will have a streak of good games like he did at the begining of the season and then a streak of bad games like he is having now. The problem is is that just when his streak of bad games gets long enough, people bench him and then he has another good game.

He's too hard to predict, so even though he's going against Houston; I'm benching him this week for Coles or Kennison.
