I like Berman...the Marshall thing never bothered me and I love it when he and Tom sing the San Diego Supe rChargers song, no matter how dumb it is! Plus, Berman gives props to the Chargers throw-backs...which he says are the best throwbacks ever.
At least he speaks coherently, which is more than I can say for some of the CBS guys and the ESPN Sunday night crew. Plus, he doesn't have any man-love for certain players like Madden does.
Doesn't it suck to get beat at Fantasy Football...by a girl?
i think all commentators should be fired except michael irvin and they should play him 24 hours a day. he offers the best insight and is the smartest guy i have ever heard on TV............sorry, but there are a lot worse people than the swami, imagine the above

Berman may not be a football maven, but he's never pretended to be. He's fun, he's jovial, and he's about as non-offensive as you get. Sure, a little gimmicky and cookie-cutter-ish, but compare him to the guys who do the same job as him.
The ESPN guys are easily more watchable than any other group of studio announcers on tv... period.
thats about the way i feel....espn crew is by far better than the other announcers.....
well, not the espn sunday night crew....ugh -cringes-
Anyone watching berman's shows for insight into football is the fool, not berman. Berman's just having a good time, trying to keep us entertained until football starts on sunday/monday.
I suppose he could just sit there like a bump on a log reading the highlights in dead-pan. I'm guessing there's a segment of the population that would enjoy that. But not me.
I like Boomer the way he is. I rarely get a chance to catch his bits, but last night I caught him on NFL Countdown (correct name?) and once again got to hear him congratulate the Bears for leading the NFC Norris. Yeah he's used that "joke" about 1,000 times by now, but it's still worth hearing.
C'mon, are you kidding me? Berman is an institution, like Walter Cronkite, Howard Cosell or Homer Simpson. Yeah, his schtick is old, but it's his schtick! Yeah, he's making a living on 20 year old catch phrases and nicknames, but Berman's influenced a lot of people right down to your local sportscasters. NFL Primetime is the best highlight's show available. TJ and Berman have a great rapport.
And Kenny Mayne? He is NOT funny. The Mayne event blows. Mayne thinks he's Steven Wright or something.

The ESPN Sunday Night Crew is another story altogether.
What I really like about the ESPN studio crew is that they complement each other well. Whoever decided to sit Steve Young next to Michael Irvin was a genius. These guys always come at the issues from different angles, from both a personal perspective and an understanding-of-the-game perspective. And whoever said that Berman comes off as just a "big fan" I think is absolutely correct. He doesn't tell you that he knows everything - he's just a big goofy guy who really likes the game.

Berman used to be entertaining. Now he's an irritation. His nicknames are terrible (they should AT LEAST pertain to football---My Favorite Martian????) and his use of "sound effects" bug the crap out of me. "Watch as he dices between two defenders!Whoop! Whoop!" Stop it already.

I am just curious how others feel. I wouldn't say it bothers me. I agree that he is what he is, but I wonder why he still does what he does. See Warhawk's quote about Madden. Maybe announcing should be like rock and roll, where it's better to burn out.

Oh, man, I saw him do golf once. Trainwreck tv.

I'm not looking for insights, but when he starts comparing the Eagles to a string of Christmas lights, where if one bulb goes out, they all go out, and then says that he doesn't mean that; he means the opposite...Well, it makes me want to write a giant run-on sentence right after I slap my forehead.
Sure, he could be better, and he could be worse. But I bet most of you reading these posts could do a better job than "the Boom".
