Help me come up with a video idea for philosophy class!!!

Hey, have a complete blank on an idea for this competition at our high school, looking for some pitches.

Concept can be funny, serious, documentaryish, basically anything, just must follow this theme:

DEDICATION (in a determination, perserverence sense).

The video must be 5-12 mins long, so typically it is better to stick to a single scenario for the video, (for instance, one idea that has already been approved is a mail man who faces various obstacles in delivering an important letter, [ie. dogs, weather, traffic] but in the end accomplishes his goal.

Any ideas are welcome, but the pitch is due tomorrow, wednesday.

hmm do you have to do all the filming yourself? if not, you could do something like peyton mannings struggle to defeat the patriots, finally culminating in monday nights game.

You could show the struggles and determination that TO showed in trying to ruin his career! (J/K)

How about someone in the military going through boot camp, and all they have to overcome to finish a stronger, better person in the end?

The new Dwayne Wade commercials are perfect for this. If you have to do the filming yourself, it would be really easy to do something like that commercial using a simple editing (windows movie maker).

If you have to act this out, a good scenario would be a clumsy guy who obviously is attracted to some chick. Every time he attempts to approach her, he falls to the ground. Just like the Wade commercials you would show him doing this a few times, then show him getting up off the ground and continue to approach her. Then of course the girl accepts(or for a little comedic twist, he still gets rejected at the end).

This exact scenario is just something I could think of really quickly that is pretty similar to the Wade commercials. I'm sure there are many other(and better) ideas stemming from that premise.

Here's an idea-the catch is that it has to be fall when you film it.

1. Set up a camera watching a tree, film.
2. Repeat every other day.
3. Edit for time.

The point here is that after a while you might have a tree with only a few leaves on it. Entitle your project "Absolute Dedication", cut all the sound from the project (and replace it with something wierd, like a heartbeat). It's so deep, your teacher will have to give you an A

Haha, thanks, in terms of a documentary, the army bootcamp idea is good.

But i'd much rather do something more satirical, because we must edit/use our own actors/or ourselves, and it will be hard to make a serious attempt at a documentary without accidently slipping into a mockumentary.

My group had originally discussed prostitution, and those with children who sacrifice something as sacred as themselves to keep their child alive.

^get serious, the group wanted to use our female group member as a prostitute, but keep it serious and somber, like that would happen.

So, I guess i have decided that ideas such as the guy going for a girl scenario are the types of things that we are looking for.


The prize for this is exemption from midterms, if you come in 1st, 2nd or 3rd, its judged by a group of film students. which as a senior means we get an entire week off from school, which would be sweet.
