Not football...but I would like some response anyway

I made this for my WoW character, and just wanted some opinions on it. I know a lot of people here are pretty skilled in the Photoshop arts and could give me some feedback.

first off I started out with the black grunged border, but I was hindered by it later with the addition of the text to the right. any background i added made the text even less visible than they are now (which may or may not be too much as it is).

so I decided to stay all white in the underlying bg, but then what to do with my character image. should I make him colorful and contrast the feel of the image, or make him black/grey/white and althought in the same color scheme hard to make out.

The whole things seems way over contrasted to me. I understand going for a contrasted look, but this seems a bit overboard.

I think it would look pretty cool on a black background, because otherwise I think the black top and bottom are too thick. The character would probably do better with an outer glow, since it kidn of blends into the black.
Papyrus is an alright font, but you might want to use a custom one to make it look unique-er.
So other than adding the glow around the character, you've got a pretty good sig for a black background. Otherwise think of a red or white border.

To help bring out the text on the right, if you are having trouble with it blending in, you can add a stroke or an hard outer glow. Also, I agree with atog about the character sorta taking a back seat to the black, grungy stuff. If you could try to bring it out more it will help considerably.

here's what I would try

1. push the borders out a bit to expose more of the background and character

2. place the text layer (red text) on top of the border layer

3. add some red to the character to bring him out a bit. and/or try using a subtle glow on the character
