Incentives for NOT giving up...

In a league full of friends, at least some of whom see each other often, we're thinking about imposing a penalty for the worst team, and for any teams that ghost when the going gets tough.

This is one of the suggested penalties.

It wouldn't work in a league where people aren't close, because you can get your buddies to do things that you could never make a co-worker do.

Anyone else do anything like this? Punishments or loser prizes?

If you do a serpentine draft, you could make the worst team have the middle pick the next years draft...although that is more likely to make them the worst team next year...

This is what we use in the King of the Jungle league here at the cafe.

The lowest scoring team must wear the pretty pink sig all week, and we have switched the image a number of times - mostly just some dude dressed in drag or a really fugly chic.

Its really worked well I think since no one really wants the sig of shame. Its rather amuzing and draws interest to the league outside of its members as well.

We have a "$hit Bowl" for the bottom 2 teams in our 10 team league. There is a toilet seat trophy and all. The loser of the Bowl also gets his teamed name by the superbowl champion for the next year and must keep it for the whole year. The trophy is a pink toilet seat with all of the past years winners names engraved on it and they must display it somewhere in their home....

For a league with a bunch of friends of mine. The team with the worst record has to wear a dress to the next years draft and get the beers for the guys while drafting.

In my 12 team league the loser buys 2 kegs for the next year's draft.

Yeah we have done that as well...The last place team buys the beer for the Super Bowl party...That usually hits them..When their punishment is $ based.

Or if you are all big drinkers we have done the non playoff teams drink a bottle of Mad Dog at the Super Bowl too. That's pretty fun. Gives that party a little jump start. haha.

Link works here... it's for Smoked Salmon Pate flavored soda from Jones Soda. We were thinking about Jones Candy Corn flavored soda, with Jaeger, but that sounded more amusing, and less horrifying.

Having to host the draft party if you finish in the cellar always works as incentive, too.
