I'll be 1-10, 7-4, 8-3, 4-7, and 5-6 in my 5 leagues this yr. Am I more skilled in the leagues I am doing better in or am I less lucky in the ones I am doing poorly in?
I hope MSB doesn't see that you already penciled him in as a loss
#1) There is surely a large luck factor in fantasy football, but doing your "homework;" research and analysis into matchups, injury reports, etc. can usually overcome a great deal of that. #2) The luck factor should affect everyone equally. It's NOT just you. #3) Even if the luck trumps all, the research and analysis, while time consuming, is fun and makes me appreciate all teams and players besides just that of my favorite NFL team. It also keeps me occupied and away from less useful activities like drinking and/or looking at porn.

Well, I assume you're playing against different owners in each of those leagues, so your "skill level" varies from league to league.
But in any case, five leagues is far too small a sample size to draw any meaningful conclusions from...
I do agree that it is partially luck, but noit entirely. You generally have to know your stuff to be successful. Sure some people may get lucky but you cannot just base your opinions on that. S**t happens. I am only 16 yrs old and am currently 8-2 because I know what I'm doing and enjoy what i am doing, not because of luck.

They are all Cafe leagues so the competition level is pretty high I think. I will say the league I'm 1-10 in I missed the draft, so there is evidence that skill must be involved in winning (without skill - ie missing the draft - you have no chance is the lesson I take from that league).
The level of competition varies Im sure from each of the 5 leagues - but in general, I would say ALL of them meet that "knowledge ceiling" that FB was discussion earlier.
This really is an interesting topic - one thats debated yr after yr of course - but I promise my feelings about how much luck is involved do not change with how well I'm doing.
Dream - MSB is down to Gado needing 5-6 TDs to beat me - it could happen of course - but... Im willing to bet your just frusterated that you just lost your first rd bye.
Agreed, it's a very interesting discussion. I'd love to see someone try to quantify the luck factor by some other method than just estimating. Not sure that's possible, though...
