Ward is great but he's hit & miss even when everything is going great for the Steelers. Things aren't going great for the Steelers. The Steelers haven't been able to run the ball like they're used to, Big Ben is all banged up (throwing hand among other things), and they're facing the #1 D in the league.
With all this said, everyone knows that Ward COULD still have an awesome day. Noone knows for sure what will happen on gameday. He's probably not listed as a "no-brainer" or "others" to start because there are a lot more WR's who, on paper, have a better chance of putting up big #'s this weekend. It doesn't mean that he won't put up big #'s because the games aren't played on paper. Was Lee Evans a "no-brainer" last week? Did anyone sit LT2 the week he had like 1 point vs Philly? No to both.
Week to week you just never know what will happen. Ward could end up having a great week but the chances are low. Another thing that's going against Ward is that most people I've talked to think this game should be very low scoring. Pitt. has a good D and Chicago doesn't have a strong O. Chic. has a very strong D and Pitt. hasn't had a strong O lately. I've heard some of the "experts" on TV say that they think this game will be a battle of FG's just for these reasons.
Who knows? Might turn out to be a shootout. Doubtful, but possible.
