San Diego's ultimatum to Gates seems like a bad idea now

Postby biju » Mon Dec 12, 2005 4:34 pm

What happens if they don't suspend him for one game and win that first one? Oh yeah, they probably end up in the playoffs. But now they are in a do or die situation going up against an undefeated team.

Anyone else see this as ironic as I do?

What happens if they win several games they should have throughout the year? Who's to say having Gates would have made a difference? His 124 yards (I think) and a TD didn't seem to matter yesterday. Would've could've should've don't mean a thing.

Yeah, and Gates doesn't block for the FG Unit either.

That FG block for a TD by Philly was brutal. They should've had that game.

No matter. Their record is what it is. Can't do anything about it now.

Fair enough. But you also must keep in mind that his stats are due to the playcalling more than him being open all day. Brees through over 50 passes while LT only touched the ball 22 times yesterday.

I still think having him during that first game makes a huge difference.

They could always blame the travel agencies or the airlines for the delayed flight that kept them from pulling back the suspension in time.

He "could've" been seriously injured if he played in that game.

SD lost a couple of brutal games, with Gates.

week 2: 20-17 to Denver (Denver scored 10 points in the 4th quarter including the game-winning FG with 5 seconds left.

week 5: 24-22 to Pittsburgh (Pittsburgh scored 10 points in the 4th quarter including the game-winning FG with 6 seconds left.

week 7: 20-17 to Philly (Philly scored 10 points in the last 6-7 minutes including a blocked FG for a TD with under 3 minutes left)

Then there was yesterday which wasn't as close as the final score. SD shouldn't have lost to a team like Miami if they wanted to make the playoffs. This is the game that will most likely come back to haunt them. They have 3 very tough games left (at Indy, at KC, & home vs Denv.).

They also had 1 game that they pulled out of their butts to win.

week 12: 23-17 vs Washington (SD scored 16 points in the 4th quarter & OT to win.)

Even in the Dallas game in week 1 without Gates they were winning going into the 4th quarter and gave up a 4th quarter TD to lose 28-24.

Throw away the Dolphin game where they just didn't show up and SD could easily be 12-1 if their defense and special teams didn't give up 10 4th quarter points 3 times and 7 4th quarter points once.

It's not a guarantee that they would have won in week 1 with Gates. The Philly game and the Dolphin game were just ridiculous. Those will be the 2 games that haunt SD if they don't make the playoffs.

When your 5 losses come from a combined total of 14 points...that's called not getting it f-ing done. The Chargers deserve to be where they are at and Gates being suspended that first game had nothing to do with it.
Doesn't it suck to get beat at Fantasy Football...by a girl?
