So what was the deal with Rayner?

Why did they cut him? Are they still looking at resigning him to the practice squad at least?

Curious since he's from the same hometown as me and was also a Spartan... ;-D

I think they did resign him to the practice squad already.

Anyway, he just kinda sucked... I think that's the deal. Never really got the hang of doing pro quality kickoffs. Of course, Vanderjagt is such a douche that he won't work on kickoffs, so whatever...

Yeah, I am not insinuating that he's the best thing since sliced bread, but seriously. Wasn't he better than the clown now? :-b

Hopefully, they will keep him around or sign him back if they didn't already.

All I could find before was that his leg was 'getting tired'...stuff like that... :-P I guess he wasn't used to kicking off that much at MSU... :-b

He never really got much under the ball on kickoffs. He could get it pretty deep, but they tended to be lower kicks...

I was never really impressed by Rayner. If you're gonna sign a guy just to be your kickoff specialist, at least he could boom one to the deepest part of the endzone once in a while. I swear, I've rarely seen any of his kicks ever reach the endzone at all, so it's no small wonder they let him go. It just sucks he had to go before he got a chance to get a ring with the Colts.

Yeah...It was just surprising that first of all he wasn't better than the guy now, who's a journeyman at best. Secondly, just surprised his leg was as dead as it was. He did pretty decent at MSU...And it's not like a lot of kickers are kicking it out of the endzone these days. Anytime kickers get to the point where they are doing that, they change the ball or move them back further or whatever to create more exciting plays.

(starting to sound bitter I know, but I am really not..)

Well, the Colts just re-signed Rayner. Perhaps a sign of things to come since it seems like Vanderjagt could very well be on the way out?
