I had a Rubik's when I was like 9 and I honeslty NEVER solved that darned thing. Really though I never messed with it for too long because I would rather be outside hurting myself at something. I wonder If I could solve one now?
I have seen these speedcubers before on the net. If you go to http://www.speedcubing.com and go to the multimedia section you'll see some pretty crazy videos of it.
I learned how to solve them in college, and I still do them to this day. I have 7 cubes sitting at my desk at work. I can't do them nearly as fast as those guys, and I really have no desire to. The fact that I can do them in a span of 3-7 minutes is good enough for most people.

That's my friend's brother's roommate...weird, we were just talking about how the kid does Rubik's cubes blindfolded the other day in physics. Crazy stuff.
'Twas a fun year, fellas.

Havent touched one since they first hit the market (wayyyy back when) but a kid in my class at school taught me how to do it. Ive long since forgotten, I vaguely recall up 2- right 3- top 1 type of stuff, but hey it was probably 25 yrs ago
Didnt Rubik fail to make any money off it? failed to patent or sold the patent for peanuts, something like that.

That's pretty cool that you know the guy. Yeah, once you study the messed up cube it's just like a chess game. You know where the pieces are going to be ahead of time, so you just move the sides however they need to go to get everything in the right place. So they're really not doing it in 20 seconds but really about 15 minutes and 20 seconds because they have to see where everything is before they can manipulate it. I've solved them with one hand before but not blindfolded; I am not that insane.

If you twist the top 45 degrees and use a common kitchen knife you can pop out the corner. From there it's pretty easy to disassemble the whole thing and poof! you've got it solved.
Even doing it that way, I couldn't "solve" the thing in 11 seconds.
