...is that they're owned by the Ford family! Bill Ford Jr just announced the restructuring formula for the Ford Motor Company seeing as they're losing buckets of money - gonna close 14 plants and lay off 25,000 workers. I guess if they haven't got a clue how to run their car company after a century in the business, we can't expect them to do much better in the football business. The best thing for the Lions would be for the Fords to give up on them and to sell the team to someone with a little more business acumen (which would be just about anyone else in America but them!).
Instead of just screaming for Millen to go (who definitely should go!), how about calling for the Fords to go too!!!

The Ford family is not the reason that the Lions have problems. Just to let you know, that car company that they are losing buckets of money on, has been around for over 100 years. Let me know how many other companies make it over 100 years with the same family running them.

Yeh, I said that in my post that the company had been around for 100 years if ya read it. And there have been numerous instances of of mismanagement by the Ford family over the years. And actually, prior to Bill Jr taking over the helm of Ford, it's been quite a few years since a Ford actually ran Ford.
And if the Fords aren't ultimately responsible for the woeful Lions over the last 50 years, then who is????????????

Millen should still be fired. He hired a defensive coach to run the team after his Lions were horrible most of the year.
At least with Mariucci, there was an offensive mind on the sidelines, with their new coach they will start looking more like the Texans!!! Decent D with no Offense!!
How about Millen getting someone in there that can groom all those 1st Rd Pick on the offensive side of the ball!!

I read that and was making a point off of it...If you read mine, I asked for other companies that have been around for over 100 years, with the same family owning them. Since Bill Jr took over they have had their 3rd year of profitability, so the Ford's must be able to do something right.
For anyone to come out and say the Ford's are the reason for the Lions troubles is rediculous. They want to win as badly as anyone. The people responsible are the ones that they have brought in to run the franchise. If you are going to say, who put them there? Then does that mean nobody, except the top person, has responsibility for anything that ever goes wrong with anything? There is also a great deal of luck in pro sports. You can not account for injuries, which have plagued the Lions for years.

Are they not responsible for the people they bring to run the company (the Lions that is)? If they are so good at running companies, why can't they get it right with the Lions? How many tries do they need to get it right? Why is it that some teams can turn things around in such short order (see Robert Kraft and the Patriots) and the Fords can't get it right after dozens of coaches and GM's and decades of failure? Who else is ultimately to blame if not the Fords? Where does the buck stop if not at the top??? If the people they hire are incompetent, does that not reflect on them?

Bill isn't restructuring the company because they're doing great - he's doing it because they're in deep trouble. and if you look closely at the the history of Ford and some of the bonehead moves Henry Sr and Henry II made, one could easily posit that the Ford Motor Company was a succes in spite of the Ford family and not because of them. And Bill Jr isn't perfect either (he admitted betting too heavily on SUV's and not looking to the future of more gas efficient vehicles and even alternative fuel vehicles).

The Fords havent been the greatest owners - especially when they meddle with player personell issues (like Joey Harrington who Millen didnt want to draft but was pressured to by Ford because Ford wanted to give the team an identity). At the same time though - to try and show they are poor owners because of what is happening in the US auto-industry over the last few years is pretty silly. The issues relating to the US auto-industry are primarily labor driven - so it makes sense for them to cut high paying US jobs and factories at this time - the same can be said for GM who is in a MUCH worse situation than Ford. The truth be told - both GM and Ford's auto-divisions havent made money in years - the only reason they make the vehicles is so that it provides their financing arm's customers since Ford Credit and GMAC are where the valuable margins are and the majority of their profit is made.
On their behalf - the Fords have had some of the highest paid front offices and coaching staffs in the NFL. Obviously that hasent translated into wins, but that does signal they are trying. Also - they built Ford Field out of their own pocket as well - something thats pretty rare in today's NFL, right? All in all they arent the best owners, they have made a lot of mistakes, but I certainly dont consider them the worst owners in the NFL either.
What's the Lions problems right now? Mostly coaching issues - developing young talent, buying into a system, teaching work ethic - that sort of thing. This can be turned around relatively quickly since they do have a lot of young talent, and I really like the fact that Marinelli is the coach based on what I have read about his leadership and coaching style. To me, there are a lot more important things to look at in a HC or Coordinator than what kind of system they came from, but apparantly based on some opinions I've read others look at "he's an offensive guy" or "he comes from this or that system" and try and extrapolate that into what kind of coach he is going to be. What I want is a guy who can lead and teach - I could care less about what side of the ball he comes from.
