Short Yardage Boys

Postby Miked_Up » Wed Jan 25, 2006 11:16 pm

I was thinking about Jerome Bettis the other day and he made me think... past or present: Who are the Top 5 short-yardage backs of all time?

Marcus Allen has to be on that list. No question.

Are you talking RBs only or fullbacks too? If you're including fullbacks I'ed say that you have to consider Mike Alstott... maybe the best in recent history.

I would say fulbacks too... just... if you were sitting on the 1, who would you want to give the ball to?

Christian Okeye, Jerome Bettis, Will Perry, Marcus Allen, Larry Csonka, John Riggins, Jim Taylor, Mike Alstott...

Anyone care to risk his dignity and rank your Top 5?

Currently, Zack Crockett is making a living off of being one of the NFL's best short yardage backs. Leroy Hoard comes to mind as a very strong goalline back, at least for a few years.

A guy who was not one of the greatest, but a solid strictly short yardage back a few years ago is Stacey Mack.

Heh, maybe the best thing to say is "anyone who plays with Fred Taylor" is a good fit for short yardage back. Poor Freddie.

Besides those previously mentioned...

I think Moe Williams is a pretty good short yardage back. if it weren't for that, why would he still be playing?

And T.J. Duckett.
