Very solid prospects, especially Vitt. Any feedback on these coaches.

Vitt: Hired by Martz in 2004 as Asst HC & LB Coach. Rams were 8-8 in 2004, ended up 6-10 in 2005 (4-7 under Vitt as interim HC). The Jets didn't want him as HC (neither did the Rams).

I dunno if I would be thrilled about Vitt.

You have to put Vitt's record in perspective.

He didn't have Bulger, Holt, or Bruce for quite a few of those games and the defense was among the worst in the league..

From what I hear the players respect Vitt and play hard for him.

I think it is a good hire. He is a hard nosed no nonsense guy.

not to mention Gary Gibbs...

former LSU DC and Dallas LBcoach...

hired in NO to be DC.

Gibbs is a solid coach who's always made our LBs produce despite injury. And he of course has history with Sean Payton... as they spent the last couple seasons in the Big D.

Good hire by NO.

Agreed - he has a long history with the NFL, and has coached many successful players.

But as far as the Rams defense being among the worst in the league - didn't that fall under Vitt's responsibilities as a linebacker coach?

That defense had been aging and losing key players for several years, slowing deteriorating. This past off-season they lost their best young LB in Tommy Polley, and the FA's they signed, Coakley and Claiborne both ended up on IR. Injuries, not coaching weakened that LB corps into one of the worst in the league. Also, starting DeJuan Groce and Ronald Bartell at CB due to IR for 4 members of the secondary probably didnt help either.

That's good and all, but the question is, how will this affect the Deuce?
