glad to see Aikman go first ballot... and while I was never a huge Irvin fan, he deserves to go sometime later. I agree with a no first-ballot for Mike.
But Monk gets the shaft again? What is wrong with the HOF?
ok people missed my point. he isn't as good as jerry rice, and wasn't comparing him per se. I was just saying that the argument that it was a different era isn't completely correct as there were other receivers putting up numbers.
And no one has yet refuted the fact that 2/3 or 66 percent of his career was uninspiring. That should count IMO. And his best year's weren't that good.
As an innovator and the first past 100 catches, let him in.
But it isn't the most royal screw job in the history of HOF voting.
The opening scene of the movie "Saving Private Ryan" is loosely based on games of dodgeball Brian Dawkins played in second grade.
For those of us who listen to Galloway and Co. on ESPN radio in the afternoon in the greater DFW area, I'm glad Rayfield Wright got in so Randy Galloway stop his darn yammering about CowBias!
Man that got old!

Yeah, individually, his seasons don't stack up very well. But, like Charlie Joiner before him, his longevity provided some lofty totals.
Yeah, but do we want our HoF to be crap. Stardon, not service needs to be evaluated. Just because one guy is lucky and can last 5 more years dosn't mean he needs to be a pro-bowl lock.

Pleeeeeeeeeeeeease. In a world where "I am extremely overrated" Lynn Swann is in the Hall, you're telling me Art Monk doesn't deserve to be in? No way, no how.

Wow...just looked at Swann's stats. They need to kick him out of the HoF.

Personally, I don't think Swann deserves to be in the Hall. Just because he was a postseason hero doesn't warrant Hall status. Swann never once had a single 1,000 yard season. Heck, Swann never even had a 900 yard season.

Unlike fantasy football, real football cannot always be measured by stats alone... The Redskins appeared in 4 of 10 Superbowls and 7 of 10 playoffs between 1983 and 1992... And Art Monk was instrumental in the Redskins game plan throughout that time frame... Individually his stats may pale in comparison to today's studs, who have the benefit of better equipment, better medicine, better training, better turf, better supplements, better equipment, more aerial offenses, etc... etc... etc... but, make no mistake about it, Art Monk was a MAJOR weapon for a Redskins team that was very dominant in the NFL for the better part of a decade...
Maybe a lot of people on this thread never watched him play...
That's the only reason I can come up with for all this hating...
Were it not for guys like Art Monk, there wouldn't be guys like Torry Holt.... Monk, Swann, Largent, Rice, et al. revolutionized football, and they deserve the credit they have earned, even if their stats don't reflect their historical significance.
