You could be right about me nitpicking - but it is just a big pet peeve of mine when people cross statistics to prove talent absent of situation - they simply do not measure talent exclusively.

Take what you wrote above - I would completely agree with everything you wrote - except for the last part. How do we judge if Warner is good, bad or great? I dont really have a good answer since I dont believe statistics measure ability all that well at all.

Its all about judging players - if you cannot seperate skill and ability from the situation, then you begin to make bad decisions regarding that player's ability. Using common statistic to begin an assesment of a player's talent level already starts you off on the wrong foot and creates myths. Do you understand what I am saying?

I already posted stats from the averages of other QBs in similar "situations" (other teams that passed for over 30 times a game on average) but that apparently is still no good to you, so short of bending the rules of reality and sticking each of the 32 starting QBs in a rotation that puts them on each of the 32 teams for a season to compare how they do against one another, what basis do we have for judgement other than the all-mighty CBM's opinion?

No, I didn't miss the point - you did. My point was that you don't have to like the guy, but saying he sucks is completely wrong and there is no way to defend the statement.

I hate the Seahawks myself, but there is no logical way I can contend they suck and not look like an idiot...

You cant. Deal with it. You simply cannot use common statistics to compare players who were in different situations. As I stated above - the absolute best way to judge a players talent level is simply to watch him play week in and week out. Dont bother looking at statistics derived from a situation in order to make a statement about that player's ability or talent.


As for Warner sucking - my OPINION stems from such issues as his me-first character and terrible injury history.

Would the decrepit one have been as good or better than Joey in DET in 2006? Lots of different ways to answer that. I guess I would say that he would have been better in the games he was healthy for. But since "better" can be defined as value and overall utility to the organization - not just the gameday performance, my guess is that it would have been pretty close - especially since Joey will probably restructure his contract so he'll be paid less than Warner, Joey is obviously much more durable, and he doesnt have a history of being a cancer off the field like Warner.
