I've been saying the same thing all week. "Al Gore should be brought up on charges for treason!!" This is akin to a political enemy of Winston Churchill going to Nazi Germany and inflaming those who hate his country with anger towards England.
Actually, I think Gore is looking for votes. Recognizing the growing terrorist population in the US, he's securing a new special interest group! Way to go, Al Gore!!
Seriously, he should be ashamed of himself!! How dare he do this against our President and our Country??? We are at war against terrorism. They want to nuke us!!! And he's going over there, speaking against our President and fueling anti-American hatred??? As if they need the help.
Shame! Shame on you, Al Gore!!!!! You make me sick.
Nice to see another rational political voice on the Cafe.

freedom
You don't appreciate freedom moonhead?
Sure he does. As do I. Freedom of speech. You may not agree with what Gore said. But the manner in which he said it is provided for through the Consitution.

yeah, I'm pretty sure he hates freedom. He also chokes puppies and clubs baby seals.
I hate to go all "chick flick" on everybody, but The American President had some great lines about Free Speech which are apropos to this conversation:
"America isn't easy. America is advanced citizenship. You've gotta want it bad, 'cause it's gonna put up a fight. It's gonna say, "You want free speech? Let's see you acknowledge a man whose words make your blood boil, who's standing center stage and advocating at the top of his lungs that which you would spend a lifetime opposing at the top of yours." You want to claim this land as the land of the free? Then the symbol of your country cannot just be a flag. The symbol also has to be one of its citizens exercising his right to burn that flag in protest. Now show me that, defend that, celebrate that in your classrooms. Then you can stand up and sing about the land of the free."
That's really the meat of the discussion in this thread, a la Hollywood. But just because it came from a movie doesn't make it any less right.

Another great post knapp. I think that's what this thread has become, an exercise in our free speech.
Many of us oppose the manner and the words used by Al Gore, while others feel it was his right (of course) and don't have any apparent opinion on what he said, while others probably completely agree with what he had to say. Each of us have stated what we believe, including many points and outside opinions in the form of articles and, uh, chick flick movie quotes, but a week later, I'm sure we all feel the same as we did the day before I posted this thread.
I, for one, love freedom and quote the First Ammendment regularly. It is a foundation and cornerstone of life in America.
So..........
Does Al Gore have the freedom to mouth off against his Country? Sure he does.
Does he have the freedom to incite hatred and bigotry against us? Yep!
Does good ol' Al have the right as an American citizen to travel to the country that provided most of the 9/11 terrorists and incite them with inflammatory, unsubstantiated, anti-American rhetoric? Oh, without a doubt.
Does Al Gore have the right to speak to our enemies about supposed American abuses against their countrymen? I suppose.
But should he?
Is Al Gore a complete dickhead for doing all the above? Absolutely.
Good job, Al Gore, for being an anti-American dickhead.
Yo, Met... thanks for the sig! GO DUCKS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
