Defensive tackle Maake Kemoeatu, one of the hottest players in the unrestricted market, on Saturday agreed to a five-year contract with the Carolina Panthers.
The four-year veteran, who had played his entire career with the Baltimore Ravens, will earn $27.5 million over the course of the contract, which includes a $6 million signing bonus and $2 million in second-tier bonus. His base salary for 2006 is $1 million.
Hmm, so would this change Carolina's draft plans? I almost booked them almost for Gabe Watson.
Kemoeatu sounds really great next to Jenkins. However, Jenkins is really injury prone.. but would Carolina then shift their draft needs towards a TE or something?
I think it's a good signing, even at the pricetag. This guy is a young stud who should, along with Jenkins, anchor a great line in Carolina. I have to believe, however, that the signing was in part due tothe uncertainty about Jenkin given his injury history, as the Panthers suffered greatly againt the run when Jenkins was out. With Kemoeatu there, he is noth an insurance policy for Jenkins, and another beast in the middle if Jenkins is healthy. That D line looks absolutely deadly at this point.

That is a great signing, IMO. I really wished the Saints would target Maake, but they really showed no interest. Big addition to an already great D-Line... that signing puts them back on top for the leagues best front 4, just surpassing the Jags.
